Re: What's going on in your city/country/region?
I guess Trump just deployed the Marine Corps to Los Angeles to suppress protests against mass deportation. https://www.latimes.com/california/live/los-angeles-protests-immigration-raid-updates Wild. It feels increasingly like the world has become a sci-fi dystopia. I always compared Orwell and Huxl...
Re: Gaza
The international community is very obviously becoming more vocal against Israel. I think in the past month or so, the Overton window has shifted in countries like the U.S and the U.K., and criticism of Israel is no longer automatically antisemetic, and the reflexive defenses appealing to antisemit...
Re: Gaza
A two state solution may or may not be off the table, but I think it will increasingly become the preferable realistic option for Israeli Zionists. I think there are essentially only three ways forward: (1) continued apartheid or ethnic cleansing or genocide towards establishing a "greater Israel",...
Re: Gaza
It's such a clusterf*ck now I don't see any good way for it to end. I figure both sides hate each other to the extent they won't ever get along (I realize this has been the case pretty much from the start). Hindsight being 20/20, while the Palestinians got a bit of a raw deal in 1948, if had they ju...

Re: Could you have an online community like INTPc today?
I'm not sure if that sort of thing would be a problem, it seems these types of long form posting forums have just fallen out of favor. I mean, there is nothing lacking here compared to the formative days of INTPC, but nobody seems to seek out these kinds of forums for the most part. All reddit or Di...

Re: The food and drink thread
Don't they interact with alcohol, though? That alone would convince me to just eat less salt. I don't think so. I know a couple of guys on bp meds and they still drink without issues. Also, I think going low sodium will only reduce one's blood pressure by 8-10 points or so, which is not eno...

Re: What's going on in your city/country/region?
Trump seems to be going on in every country these days. Unfortunately for me, he has revitalized the fortunes of the incompetent Liberal Party of Canada. *sigh* Minimum of four more years of socialist economic decline for Canada. At least wretched Trudeau is out the door (for now). Have to take sola...

Re: The food and drink thread
I guess there are also a few conditions that could contribute to blood pressure, beyond salt consumption, and maybe tackling those things at the same time could allow you to use at least a bit of salt. Some things just aren't going to work without it, IMO. I'm no longer going zero-salt with pizza b...

Same here. Getting: net::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID which leads to having to click again to proceed to this potentially unsafe site
However, if this is the price to pay for decent response time, it's probably the lesser of two evils.

Re: Science Microthreads
I'm still confused. People get sedated for all sorts of very invasive medical procedures and very rarely wake up during them. And in those instances, doctors have to be careful not to over sedate someone lest that kills them. It should be easy to sedate someone so heavily you could shoot them in the...
