Re: Sleep :/

My sleep patterns are eight days of desperately clinging to every minute I can manage between 10-12 hour shifts followed by six days of wondering why I am sleeping so much and feel terrible all the time. Repeat until death.

I don't recommend it.

Re: Ancestry

Were your paternal grandparents Arabs? There are a lot of peoples in the middle-east, maddo! Mine are the ones what like linen clothing and forcing their women to cover up, be silent in houses of worship, and hold as few positions of authority as possible. I assume that clarifies things perfectly. ...

Re: What are you listening to?

Italian singer Claudia Sorvillo is so twee I may die of it, but I am quite keen on this cover of the 1980 French song "Antisocial" by Trust. (French version with Delphine Truchet)

Re: I'm bad at chess

I had, and may even still have, a magnetic travel chess set Oh I definitely need one of those. For the postcard chess I have tried to keep a cheap and cheerful board out on my desk with the current position, but the cats will not indulge me. Looks pretty cat proof that option. My limited relevant e...

Re: I'm bad at chess

postcard chess, sending a move once a week or so I had, and may even still have, a magnetic travel chess set I would use in this way by sending photos of it to internet friends. The open board left out, affording the other person a small portion of my physical space to occupy between turns. chess.j...

Re: What are you radicalising to?

I fear that Chomsky would be the only man to get the job done. Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent" remains a great looming presence in my mind, and I still consider it essential reading. I disagree strongly with what he has to say about some subjects, but completely agree that ...

Re: What are you radicalising to?

I will start things with Gail Dines' "Neo-Liberalism and the Defanging of Feminism" from 2012, with the note that everything mentioned here has become significantly worse in the time since.

Re: I'm bad at chess

I played quite a bit as a youth , putting a non-trivial amount of time into first saving up for a hand-carved wood set and then attempting to make my own, but I wouldn't say I had pursued any organised or effective approach to consciously developing skill that I could pass on. Then I did a chess web...
