Re: AAA: Ask America Anything

My use of "Marxist" there was not in reference to my own politics or desired immediate outcome, but an allusion to right wing weirdos decrying anything and everything as socialism/marxism. I will take full blame for that misunderstanding but I don't see how it obscures the rest of my point.

Re: AAA: Ask America Anything

There is no longer any meaningful left in the US or Canada... I think you meant to say there is no longer any meaningful left in the US (was there ever?) and no meaningful right in Canada. Canada is left wing as fuck these days. Budget deficits sky high, free money for everyone and the answer to an...

Re: Geopolitical anomalies

Nunavik is a semi-autonomous apology Inuit special administration zone the size of California located in Québec.

There are, so far as I know, no statues of Lenin there.

Re: AAA: Ask America Anything

There are two Canadas (both alike in dignity!), anglo- and francophone... What is the origin of the stereotype that Canadians are overwhelmingly friendly and polite and Americans are not? Is it psychological, is it dialectical, is it financial, is it the liveability factor, is it artifact of its Eu...

Re: AAA: Ask America Anything

This isn't quite what you asked, but I am still useless with imperial units and anytime I have to convert hogsheads to furlongs or whatever damn nonsense I feel like I am trapped in a Terry Pratchett novel. 16 ounces in a pound, 14 pounds in a stone, 8 stone in a hundredweight, 20 hundredweight in ...

Re: AAA: Ask America Anything

There are two Canadas (both alike in dignity!), anglo- and franophone, the latter being significantly more metricified. We even have 24-hour clocks, a thing that apparently exists and you are allowed to use. This isn't quite what you asked, but I am still useless with imperial units and anytime I ha...

Re: World War II Without The Yanks

I believe the subsequent political implications of this altWWII ending in ~1950 with the same victors would pale in comparison to those of the subsequent decades of an isolationist US without the super charged manufacturing industry or the infinite political capital and influence to reshape Europe a...

Re: What are you listening to?

@ashi: More banjo music: Look, if I wanted to get my banjo jams from Nordic novelty acts (Steve 'n' Seagulls are Finnish, Ylvis are Norwegian) I would listen to this bluegrass version of Ylvis' The Fox. Re: What are you listening to?

Dear stereotypical ethnic urbanites please don't knock it until you've tried the right version of Country. A problem that he and I (and perhaps you as well) share is that we have an affinity for a "country music" that no longer holds any sway and is no longer evolving. Dead art forms and the termin...
