Re: What do vegetarians eat again?
I do make split pea soup In England it is quite common to put mint in pea soup which produces a clement contrast of flavours though like you I nearly always have it with bacon. Another soup that I guess counts as vegetarian though not vegan is stilon and brocoli soup, one of my winter favourites - ...

Re: Run-up to WW3
They are, to date, the only country to voluntarily give up their nuclear weapons (albeit impotent ones). Actually not true, South Africa did too between 1990/1991. Like Israel (who actually covertly helped them obtain the weapons) they were never a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as so...

Re: Run-up to WW3
I too think this has to end soon; I interpreted Putin's announcement of putting his nuclear forces on high alert as a hysterical response to growing sanctions. I don't think he wants to live with this situation for very long. I really hope that Ukraine will agree to neutrality and that the peace ta...

Re: Run-up to WW3
Surely Russian can't conquer and then occupy the entire Ukraine. They couldn't even handle Afghanistan. Also, I assume the EU would kick up a fuss over that, even if Ukraine is not a NATO member. Without wishing to be held a hostage of fortune... I feel the most likely scenario is he takes all of U...

Re: The food and drink thread
My wife is ill with the omicron variant so I'm cooking. I made a roast chicken with roast potatoes, roast sweet potatoes and carrot yesterday. Today I made a shepard's pie, mixing in peas, onions, garlic, carrots and a sprinkling of Worcester sauce with a crust made from a sprinkling of Grand Padano...

Re: What are you reading?
I guess that won't help the fact his writings are full of references and easter eggs that only his nerdiest readers will enjoy and understand Probably this is why I like him. Generally I like authors who make me look up a web of references for further reading. How do you mean? I mean I studied in 2...

Re: Run-up to WW3
I believe I predicted thus 7 years ago. Took a bit longer than I was expecting.

Re: What are you reading?
Have you ever read Name of the Rose, Foucault's Pendulum or Baudolino? He was erudite to inhuman levels.
I'd wish I'd read "How to Write a Thesis" earlier. Although it probably woukd make no difference: the arts were a different world then.
