A Shoutout to Catoptric: The Steady Light of INTP.live

Post by Yesterday » Sat Jul 05, 2025 6:00 am

Just taking a moment to appreciate Catoptric — not only for showing up since day one, but for consistently posting content that’s genuinely thought-provoking, layered, and oddly magnetic. In my opinion, many of the forum’s most interesting discussions can be traced back to their contributions.

This thread is a space to share and revisit the thought-provoking topics Catoptric has so diligently offered to this community over the years. Appreciation means more when the person’s still here to read it.

Being nice is the only real rebellion left — and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than therapy. :hat:

I second the shoutout to Catoptric. Ever since the 2000's his posts have been interesting. One post regarding the pineal gland begin the "third eye" really stands out for me and ever since I have respected this individual. I am transported into a different dimension when I read that kind of stuff. Cheers!

I'll give him credit for keeping the lights on around here. I have no problem with his posts, but sometimes I find they are a bit of an overload. There's a big mixed bag of subjects he gets into. I often wonder how in the world he finds the time to even watch parts of all the videos he posts.

However, on those occasions I notice a topic of interest to me and comment on it, he usually has a relevant response to what I say that leads me to believe he must actually take the time to acquire information about the subjects he covers.

Congratulations; you are the 666th post on the Meta thread.

And though I've not posted a reply yet, I appreciate the comments.

Admittedly, I probably have some form of ADD and mostly post as a way to structure my proneness to distractibility (and oftentimes I will post to keep track of things I plan to watch or read, though admittedly will either speed up the video to skip through it, or will zone off with it playing in the background, and mostly only read things with a cursory glance (though usually at least some decent comprehension compared to what I see people posting on most social media. . . Which isn't saying much;) either not believing any of it but sharing it in the hopes that maybe there is some redeeming value to it, or in the hopes that it might have some vested interest to others.)

Most of my time over the last few years has merely been to alleviate the stress of what could be considered anxiety developed out of a learned helplessness response and low-level of internal locus of control whether by ADD traits or as a coping mechanism for what might be considered a failed late-stage or post-capitalism society (or this is a projection in which I tend to believe INTP are not suited for, since it seems to reward either through exploitation or misdirection of people's wherewithal for honesty, and that people only cooperate with each other because they seek to validate self-interest while subverting genuine authenticity for the sake of intrinsic reward; that without reward they would just as well sabotage others to game the system.) More than enough time is spent being open-minded only to realize the vast majority of all society produces is intentional misdirection or misguided suppositions that serves some ego-syntonic interest; where society is in a constant state of arrested development akin to Stockholm Syndrome, most of which we are too stupid to be able to resolve and thus subject ourselves to authority figures who society only values as far as it's believed to be convenient to their group hegemony and self-interest.)

The regression towards the mean is the Darwinian "evolution" we should all fear, and perhaps I view societies progression as anti-climatic, so I view kenopsian and liminal nostalgia as somehow "safe" and unchanging, like some proto-typical archivist with a vendetta for modernization and an axe to grind.
