user names made easy for the easily confused

Post by djm » Mon Mar 01, 2021 11:33 pm

Any chance we can post a list up of historic user names next to new names? I can't keep up with the changes. Is the one with the polar bear Oso for instance? etc etc

I think some people are deliberately witholding the info, such as DJ Drug Problem. I think I have a guess at who it is though. :read:

I added a custom user profile field so folks can optionally add this alongside their username if they wish (see mine for a temporary preview), but I guess it might not be such a popular option, not sure. I guess people changed their name for a reason. :)

If anyone wishes to add it, it can found in the dropdown with their username (top right), User Control Panel, Profile, and then fill the "Formerly" field. When non-empty, it should show in their profile.

It was Oso Mocoso, then Osito Polar, now Autochthonic.

As long as you don't go look it up, Autochthonic is the Greek translation for "polar bear".

[edit: because some people believed me, no in Greek it means "self-created", in English it's meaning is more like 'indigenous'.]

I didn't change my username, as it probably would have no effect at all, given (I think) my writing style is quite distinctive.
