I always joke when asked about language, that I only learned English at 18 when I left Birmingham! My working class Brummy was so strong nobody understood a word I was saying, might as well have been speaking French.

These days I have the classical English problem of which language do I learn, when everyone else learns my language as a second one (well the American facsimile of it anyways). Know a bit of French, bit of Arabic, bit of Spanish and bit of Russian. Actually got to dust off my rusty Russian in Sadat City (Egypt) last week!

Nothing but respect for people like yourself that are truly bilingual. Well outside of my abilities.

I didn't make any effort to be bilingual! Just got dragged around from country to country as a kid. French was still not a chore because I started at 10, but the languages I attempted to learn in adulthood were work.
