Run-up to WW3
Re: Run-up to WW3
Most wars involve hubris.
Sarkozy realized Assad was a piece of shit who couldn't be relied upon, and now Macron has welcomed the fall of Assad (who murdered his way to consolidate power.) Putin has similar "soft skills."
Re: Run-up to WW3
The proliferation of wars will result in a much bigger one.
A hypothetical WW3 in 2032 (though I think it could already be "happening" and would start with cyberwarfare and sabotage.

Ukraine drones strike bombers during major attack in Russia
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1ld7ppre9vo
They were remotely controlled drones, so the people controlling them knew what they were targeting. Ukraine also had prepared a year in advance for this mission, but recently acquired data on all of Russia's military assets, so they will know exactly where to attack. The vehicles used to smuggle the drones within reach of the targets went unnoticed, so it's possible they will try to deter future strikes, but by this point their could be much more already prepared in advance, even by those within Russia who Putin has no idea are assisting in taking down their own military.

Russia's AWAC style of plane (worth around 1/3rd of a $billion supposedly) and key to monitoring missile strikes, was destroyed, and they most likely have no replacements (though it looks like they have extras, and these might all be out of commission for some time already.)

A 2023 Business Insider article:

US debt will become unsustainable and trigger default in about 20 years, if it stays on current path
And it's clearly getting worse. . . though I find it "funny" that a lot of the "business type" seem completely oblivious of this still, even when the writing was on the walls before he even got re-elected (and proved how his "strategy" with tariffs in his first term had the opposite effect of what his goal was, even when it was absurd to think "balancing" the import to export trade was actually a good thing.)
Don't ever allow trump near a scalpel, as about the only thing he would be good at is lobotomies.

The Congressional Budget Office just released its final numbers on the House Republican plan, and the results are a master class in reverse Robin Hood economics. If this passes, the country will lose $3.7 trillion in revenue and add $2.4 trillion to the national debt, all so the ultra wealthy can enjoy even bigger tax breaks. Meanwhile, nearly 11 million people are set to lose their health insurance by 2034. It is a plan so lopsided, you almost have to admire the audacity.
In a twist, even a few Republicans are speaking out against the plan—but not for any noble reasons. Elon Musk, never one to miss a headline, called the proposal a “disgusting abomination” because it adds way too much to the deficit. Senators like Rand Paul and Ron Johnson are wringing their hands over fiscal responsibility, citing their pathological obsession with America’s debt and warning that the ballooning deficit is “immoral.” But let’s be real: these blood suckers do not care about the millions of poor and working class Americans about to get steamrolled. Their only concern is that the bill is not cruel or “efficient” enough.
So yes, there is some Republican opposition, but it is not coming from a place of compassion. They are not losing sleep over families losing coverage or kids going without care. They just cannot stomach a deficit this big—unless, of course, it comes with even deeper cuts for everyone but the rich.

US braces for potential Israeli strike on Iran even as Trump pursues nuclear deal

And of course the news says the USA claims to be "not responsible" despite selling munitions to Israel.

US approves $20 billion in weapons sales to Israel amid threat of wider Middle East war
https://apnews.com/article/israel-gaza- ... e20b5e19ec
Even before this happened, it was suspected that Israel was responsible for attacking an Iranian consular building in Syria that killed seven, including 2 generals. Iran also shot down some drones that were circling nuclear sites (whether for energy or not, it's evident Iran would seek weaponization, but then again they kind of are allies with Russia, and much of Syria would be proxy warfare with Israel.)
