What's going on in your city/country/region?
Re: What's going on in your city/country/region?
Jerry Jones (of Dallas Cowboys fame) just crashed into the side of a vehicle as it was turning (and no, he wasn't driving from another direction he was driving from behind.)

I was just looking at a property he owned which he renovated around the Dallas Cowboys training facility, investing 1.5 billion into it.

For some reason I was kind of oblivious about it even though it's been there for some time, and it wasn't until I read about a mall in Plano that was bankrupt and bought out, and it mentioned the property Jerry Jones owned north of it.

I was working as a waiter at a Golden Corral restaurant around 2004-2005 in The Colony, TX (now closed down recently which was about a decade later than I expected) and Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin had stopped by my table and as they were leaving, Irvin had left his jacket behind which I chased after him to hand it over. I wasn't particularly shocked and awed but some of the customers looked like they were about to wet their pants, and some retarded customers I was also waiting on the next side over seemed to think I was giving them favoritism but also asked if I could request them to give them special attention which I had zero obligation of doing, and between the muffled noise that Irvin was chatting into his cell phone (none of which was litterally audible) I didn't consider it prudent to interrupt the whole time they were there while also they were looking over some brochure of Sea-Doo boats.

An opinion writer argues the town I was brought up in is New Zealand's best town. https://thespinoff.co.nz/society/08-05- ... 5NWPTWxYe4
Levin has long been a punchline easily thrown out by a comedian struggling to land a joke. Sure, it’s an easy target: it’s a flat, old, fairly shabby town that straddles the rural-urban divide poorly. But, as someone who spent long swathes of my childhood there (in a move that was incredibly damaging for my social status in Wellington), I have long been a staunch defender of Levin.
I looked and failed to find a place to buy shoes to wear to my mothers funeral so perhaps it doesn't have all the shops you'll ever need...

An oilman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rex_Cauble) who seemed repentant after being released from jail despite protests of his innocence) got involved with drug trafficking charges in the late 1970s leading up to the 1980s, and considering the amount of property involved, it almost seems possible the FBI had an incentive to confiscate it.

Nothing much happening... PMs in the US talking it up on Colbert and at Harvard and Fonterra says they'd help out with the US baby formula shortage but can't due to market restrictions on finished product.
The Chinese are apparently making a move on the whole Pacific which is interesting. Someone was just on the radio asking if we were going to stump up for a new runway in Vila in Vanuatu (probably not) and said we therefore can't blame Vanuatu if they accept the Chinese offer to do it for free... (with likely strings attached).
Next thing we'll have a Chinese military base in the Solomons... considering one of the largest battles in the Pacific during WWII was in Guadalcanal in the Solomons because the Japanese having a military base there was going to cut supply lines between Australia and the US you'd have to wonder how much of a stir it's going to make.
