Seen on the street
Seen on the street
(And I continue to procrastinate)
This thread is for the cool stuff we see on our walks/jogs etc. This pic is from last year but I'll be adding to the thread with new ones.

As promised
"Matapacos" means cop killer. The dog is a protest legend
At the top is a portrayal of iconic protestors
Love. Burn. Resist.

Both of these are right near where I work.
Re: Seen on the street
I love those, especially the first! Thanks for posting them.
Also, that's not a polar bear in your avatar. *frown*

Re: Seen on the street
Is this better or worse?
Re: Seen on the street
The first one looks great.
Where the heck are you now? I’m down here in South Dakota this weekend and thought of you. How’s life treating you?
Re: Seen on the street
Reminiscent of Belfast... Cool.
Re: Seen on the street
I like this thread.
I will see if I can work out how to post photos up (I am pretty useless at techy things). I have some good ones I photographed last year in Melbourne, Christchurch, New York and Bucharest. All of which have a lot of Grafitti.

Re: Seen on the street
I live in a woodsy neighborhood on Mount Diablo. There are farms and horse ranches in the neighborhood, but we're also very much like an island of old California in the middle of the S.F. Bay Area. I work for the City of Oakland, and that's where the pictures are from. Life has been treating me really, really well lately.
Here's a few more.
There are a lot of sites that archive these street art murals. While there's a code of ethics that people don't graffiti the murals, they get replaces every so often so the art is very transitory. Also, once in a while as the buildings get remodeled old art gets "revealed" and sometimes crowds of people come to take pictures. The oldest examples of art like this were usually commercial in nature, and there were some rather artistic and classic looking advertisement murals including ones for Coca Cola that were covered up for over a hundred years, preserved under a layer of new store front.
And even a mural of Madrigal's friend.

Kinda missed the boat on this thread before. Really awesome murals.
It's fascinating, the artist's mindset creating such amazing work with under these conditions. I suppose it's the adrenaline rush and the free publicity that offsets the ephemerality.
How long do they typically last?
