I'd be getting a third dose, this time of Pfizer. I'm ok with that.
BioNtech have just developed a vaccine specific for the Delta strain. The magic of mRNA vaccines is that once they get the virus genome it only takes a couple of weeks (I don't know how long the testing takes).
Good to hear. I'm not keen on subjecting myself to boosters that aren't targeting the dominant strain(s). It seems careless to recommend a booster that "provides some protection" -- how much ?, dunno, clinical studies don't seem reliable -- because the odds are that the vaccines will have some side effect(s) in the future. That's true of any medical treatment. I think the rollout was rushed. I am not comfortable with a vaccine that is brand new, with no long term studies, qnd under intense political (economic) pressure. Cynicism aside, I think the haste was also to stem a deadly virus in the interest of saving lives. The vaccine is the lesser of two evils, imo. A "pandemic" sort of implies that the people must make tough choices, sort of like surviving a zombie apocalypse.

Masking should be required and violators should be fined. People are so self-absorbed and whiny. If being required to wear a mask is grounds for hysteria and screaming about socialism, then I'm at a loss. These people seem to only care about their "freedom" (sorry, I don't think a mask requirement is too much to ask), while failing to think that others should have the freedom to shop, work, etc., without being exposed to an unnecessarily high viral load.

It's a mask. Get over it.

Sometimes I think that the virus may be a way to eliminate some of the worst people -- the Trump bullies, antisocials, willfully ignorant, selfish, cruel people -- but then I feel guilty for the thought.

I wouldn't. At this point ignorance can no longer be claimed as an excuse. So its just the straight up stupid who refuse to get vaccinated, wear masks, etc. They deserve whatever they get.

I trade all of that schadenfreude for doing away with the electoral college, neutral rules for setting up congressional districts and re-jiggering of the rules for the the composition of the Senate - and get money out of politics while we are at it. Then we -might- have some protection from these very numerous lunatics.

Until then, I guess we just have to be smug when a few of them eat their very stupid words.

Before the UK turned into North Korea and i got stuck here, the last trip I had was Limpopo in South Africa to be a keynote speaker at an Avocado symposium. This week the owner of the plantation and the organiser of te conference died of COVID which is a sobering reminder of what it can do in places that do not have a handle on it. Most of my friends and customers in RSA are not yet vaccinated and are back of the queue on account of their colour.

Here in the UK nobody is dying of COVID, and the lack of freedom os staring to grate. Everybody that wants to be has been vaccinated. Not interested in it anymore.
