"Latinos" Try Nicaraguan food for the first time!

***DISCLAIMER... This is Fritanga, Managua city street food...Jack the Ripper lived there once

We grow the food and raise the cows in Northern Nicaragua, it's fresh from us and we make it better!

*************************

Logan's Run TV series (1977-1978) hasn't aged well. The opening to this video sounds like they used the sound dubbing from a porno.

The complete series: https://archive.org/details/LogansRunSeries
Review https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075527/?r ... lmg_cam_86
(Most of it is below an 8 rating, which for me means don't waste your time on it.)

I still find this interesting, however, though it's the movie and not the show (I was curious where the location of Sanctuary was filmed, and what the place looks like now.) I've been to the Dallas World Trade Center/Market Hall (specifically the wholesaler's location he mentions was off-limits) where many of the scenes were filmed, and the thumbnail is showing an area of Ft Worth called the Water Gardens.

The movie from 1976 is what people typically remember (though it's easily forgotten in comparison to Star Wars, for a reason. It hasn't aged well, though the dystopian "utopia" sci-fi theme has always fascinated me.)
https://archive.org/details/logans.-run.-1976.1080p

The sign in the video at the 'Water Garden' points out a major oversight in the construction, where anyone that falls in has little chance of getting out safely, suggesting whoever designed it was a bit of a dunce. . . Their should have been something to prevent people from falling in too deeply, to where the water could still drain out but not prevent people from being recovered.

Four Drown At Texas Water Park
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/four-drown ... ater-park/

Admittedly, I thought it was some little toddler that fell in accidentally, but it sounds like one of them jumped in, and the rest followed. . . They used it as a swimming pool and had on swimsuits. . .

It's worth mentioning that Logan Run was sort of the "grand daddy" of sci-fi that came after it; even the very terminology incorporated into the movie, contributed to the most famous of sci-fi movies.

"And that is, the very ideas and influence Logan boasted is directly reflected in everything from BLADE RUNNER, THE TERMINATOR and THE ISLAND to DIE ANOTHER DAY (which flat out cribs the haywire-facelift scene), MINORITY REPORT, SNOWPIERCER, and countless others."

Oddly, it's one of the few films I know that were even filmed in Texas. The film industry is mostly gone from the region.

The new Mario movie is in that.

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is bleakly honest with audiences
https://stanforddaily.com/2023/05/29/th ... audiences/

It's just half-assed product placement for the Nintendo franchise. . . At least the Sonic movie attempted to sell as a story, instead of video games (though arguably, that might be why Sega ultimately failed. . . Because society is shallow and too dumb to notice when they are being hoodwinked.)

The Great Silence (Sergio Corbucci, 1968) Klaus Kinski, and Jean-Louis Trintignant the lead actor died last year, like most people from that era

Jean-Louis Trintignant https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrit ... rintignant

He acted in the movie 'Red' as part of "Three colors trilogy" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Colours_trilogy ) by Kryzsztof Kieslowski who also produced a miniseries called Dekalog

And absurdly, the very product itself was a bit of an objectified gag gift called the Lilli doll, which was perceived as offensive to give to kids, so it failed in parts of the world with more conservative views. It wasn't until the warped marketing and hyper normalization of fakery in America that it became an artificial cultural trope that appealed to the narcissism of American culture. This is just a later version of marketing cigarettes to women as "liberation," with the same toxic side-effects.

This gives a better perspective of the movie:

Update - I just realized the movie was a bit more intelligent than I initially assumed:

The Ox Bow Incident (William A. Wellman, 1943) Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn, Dana Andrews

Rebecca (Alfred Hitchcock, 1940) Joan Fontaine, Laurence Olivier, Judith Andrews, George Sanders

Charade (Stanley Donen, 1963) Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Walter Matthau, James Coburn, George Kennedy

Giant (George Stevens, 1956) with Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean

12 gig movie file https://archive.org/details/lassie-come-home-1943

a smaller (undownloadable?) with Russian Subtitles (since I can't find it anywhere else)

One of Tommy Wiseaus's favorite films (which isn't necessarily a hallmark of opinion.)

Found "lower quality" (500 mb each part, actually looks better)
https://archive.org/details/giant_202204

and Higher (1gig each part)
https://archive.org/details/giant-part-one_202204

It's a 3 1/2 movie that people either despise or love (similar to many movies from the 50s.)

Within a decade the set piece (front of the house, not interior) had nearly all disappeared. It had cost $100,000 ($1 million today) to build.)

James Dean's Porsche Spyder got into an accident and he died right as the film was coming out.

In the movie the property claimed to be owned was half a million acres, but the filming location, 'Ryan Ranch' is about 37,000 acres and has a listing price of $27 million.
https://www.land.com/property/34880-acr ... as/989425/

No mention of how the interior shots were done, but the location was also used for 'There Will be Blood' and you can tell they were using a lot of movie sets with motion backdrop.

Pretty neat, since I wasn't able to explore the houses in that area when I was in Virginia, and these houses always seemed pretty fascinating.

Some inconsistencies perhaps (did the Chinese whistleblower claiming the outbreak centered around the wet market attempt to coverup the fact it actually originated as a leak from the lab?)
