What are you watching?
Re: What are you watching?
The above video explains a common occurrance in statistics (and how it's used to game public perception of random expectation.)

I was looking over the Twitter profile of this guy (the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog) :
He was paying tribute to the creator (one of few female game designers, Rieko Kodama) of Phantasy Star and Skies of Arcadia in March 2022
https://www.destructoid.com/rieko-kodam ... -sega-art/
I came to the same conclusions as the video, in that the insider trading accusations were targeting him since he put a dart board on himself over the years. The problem is he was actually responsible twice for insider trading (and did way more than $20,000, but up to a million in another company)
Sonic creator Yuji Naka arrested (again) for insider trading
https://www.polygon.com/23465970/sonic- ... quest-tact
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuji_Naka
He was "on his way out" over the years, from both Sega, but also Square Enix (and he seemed to be underperforming or underdelivering several times if you read his Wikipedia.)

GTA V has an interesting "Easter Egg" that seems to segway into Red Dead Redemption 2, regarding a Mount Chiliad used for end game sasquatch/shroom hunting.

Though I can see a benefit in getting people off the road that pose a threat to society (such as DUI/DWI or posing a public threat of abuse or at risk of harming others) the above article does highlight some of what shows up on this list of warrants:

You could find some correlation to this as well (basically societal exploitation and the byproduct of inadequate standards to healthcare, and a byproduct of consumerism.)

It's easier than trying to find the downloadable subtitles to append to a dvd. . .
I might just resort to downloading them on Archive.
The only source of 'A Geisha' (1953) with English subtitles I could find (though I suspect it was retitled "Musicians of Gion" as a continuation of an earlier 1936 'Sisters of Gion' film) I'll attempt to
https://ok.ru/video/2057286453870
One of two color films he did. (Taira Clan Saga aka Shin Heike Monogatari and the French name for the movie is 'Le Heros Sacrilege.') (subtitles https://subdl.com/subtitle/sd14006/tair ... monogatari )
That and Princess Yang Kwei Fei (1955) (subtitles https://subdl.com/subtitle/sd1624768/pr ... g-kwei-fei )
. . . Though the subtitles don't seem to match and might be a bad (good?) joke. . . At one point a nobleman is talking about another guy trying on robes and talking about their beauty, and then a woman is presented, they mention, "too bad the Emperor wasn't attracted to your daughter." It was difficult not to laugh.
Their is also a Zatoichi Jidaigeki (period drama) character that had 22 films made (and likewise, it's rare to find much on the series.)
It's easier to go to the movie above (click on the icon) and find the movies at the bottom, because searching for it doesn't easily compile the order sequence from 1-22.

I just realized their are two different English dubs for Akira
https://tapefreaks.blogspot.com/2019/11 ... kiras.html
The DVD version I've seen first was the 'Streamline Dub" which I actually prefer, because it just makes sense for the personality of the anime.
I had to stop watching the new one because it just doesn't vibe with what it should be (though I will continue to watch it.)
Update: Only 2 versions of the English dub exists, and the one I was used to is the Pioneer dubbing which apparently is the newest adaption (though I assumed it had an even newer version by Pioneer; it seems it was reintroduced with the original movie release as well as the option to switch between their newer version.) https://dubbing.fandom.com/wiki/Akira#Dubbing_History
Admittedly I like the changes with the 2001 introduction as it just matched the character of the story. I'm still confused, especially after checking the Manga, as it all seems very different depending on how you analyze it.

Earlier I had posted a movie by Andrei Tarkovsky, titled 'Andrei Rublev,' based on a circa 1400 Eastern Orthodox painter who only has 2 authenticated paintings attributed to him (considered the best representation of Russian art. . .)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_(Andrei_Rublev)
The Explanation Of This Famous Icon Will Give You A Deeper Understanding Of The Trinity
https://catholic-link.org/andrei-rublev ... explained/
The movie
https://youtu.be/je75FDjcUP4
A lot of the words in the subtitle are Russian slang which I was hoping to find find a list of to make it easier (though I'll probably just look it up as the movie progresses and try to stay focused.)
Russian Slang used:
Skomorokh (Jester)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skomorokh
"God made a priest and satan made a skomorokh."
Dialogue: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060107/ch ... /nm0125909
So in the film, you have a jester/bard/skomorokh who are the antithesis of the religious orthodoxy and who demonstrates free artistic expression amongst the serfs, and upon entering the shed to dry off in the rain, the painter (Andrei Rublev) and monks have a noticeable presence that has a starkly different demeanor from the leisurely activity that preceded them, and they soon witness the establishment come soon after to suppress the revelrous behavior (which was presumably reported by those who were witnessing them from outside the building looking in.) From the beginning of the film, it's evident that they are setting the stage for a critique of expression as an art form.
Some analysis
https://divinemagazine.biz/andrei-ruble ... -identity/
To get some back story:
I consider the movie Solaris to be one of his more approachable films but even then it's evident you can't always know what to expect. I can see the influence of Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai' in how he directed Andrei Rublev (but likewise it's incredibly easy to see Korosawa's much later film, 'Ran' to be inspired from Andrei Rublev with the opening skomorokh/jester,) and '2001 A Space Odyssey' in Solaris, but I'm not sure to what extent his films are more of a byproduct of Cinema or time and place of where he's filming, as I can also see certain visual storytelling elements in 'Come and See,' from 1985 directed by Elem Klimov.
Solaris movie (the only way I could find a viable download was by using F12 and CTRL+F and searching .mp4 to open the video in another link, for download; using youtube downloader would constantly stop and reset, and any Solaris video on Archive is in a different subtitle language.) https://www.bitchute.com/video/ooPLFNdLzb9K/

This covers the topic of the differences in both Mizoguchi and Inagaki's version (Chushingura) of 47 Ronin.

Kurosawa also made a propaganda film, titled, 'The Most Beautiful,' and hated himself for it (mostly because it comes across as just that, and he didn't have creative control at the time.)
Kenji Mizoguchi version of The 47 Ronin (1941) (Genroku Chūshingura)
Both are just over 3hr 30 minutes long, and I have no opinion of which should be watched (since I have yet to fully watch either.) The newer Inagaki's movie has many more recognizable actors if you ever watched any Kurosawa movies, so it might be a bit distracting. Mizoguchi is more sterile in his approach sometimes.

Basically, the films are boring and only intended for history. Despite Inagaki using Toshiro Mifune (who despite starring in it is not referenced on IMBD. . . oddly) along with costar Takashi Shimura being at the height of their careers, the film wasn't as successful as it could have been.
Personally I will probably start on Kenji Mizoguchi's version and then start on Inagaki's Toshiro Mifune's Samurai Trilogy (found on Archive org) prior to Inagaki's 47 Ronin, though I might do a run through of them all-at-once. . . if deciding to start on the 47 Ronin story while looking into little details if I get bored.

It could be perceived as a bildungsroman akin to 'Ender's Game,' but with a stronger classical Greek/Roman lore in space?
It's easy to overlook it and assume from the title it was some kind of continuation of Titan A.E. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_A.E. ), or that it's referring to the Titan moon, but it's got actual mythologically inspired titans (which presumably in this series are real things that would have crossed over into myth based on the fact they exist, per se.)

For some reason the subdl search only works using google.
The animated series is significantly better than the live-action and games, as far as story development where it seems to have been dumbed down.
These are from the game series (and look stupid)

It could be perceived as a bildungsroman akin to 'Ender's Game,' but with a stronger classical Greek/Roman lore in space?
It's easy to overlook it and assume from the title it was some kind of continuation of Titan A.E. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_A.E. ), or that it's referring to the Titan moon, but it's got actual mythologically inspired titans (which presumably in this series are real things that would have crossed over into myth based on the fact they exist, per se.)

A lot of archival footage from space missions

The #2623 video has features JPL Viking mission, with the Chief Engineer Gerald Soffen who was married to a Japanese women named Hoshi who did a lot of reviews during the 1950s to 1960's on Japanese foreign films ( https://www.rottentomatoes.com/critics/ ... fen/movies .) Gerald would have worked alongside Gentry Lee who would also be a Lead Engineer for Galileo, as well as worked on the Viking mission. I believe this is the credits for the video short https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12809632/

I'm going over a lot of Kurosawa's work now and just realize I forgot about a movie similar to Ikiru and High and Low, about an Industrialist who was in fear for his life brought on by paranoia following WW2, called, 'I Live in Fear' and discovered the earliest work of collaboration with Kurosawa as a Writer, working with Toshiro Mifune's first acting role in Snow Trail, alongside Shimura, with a music score by the guy behind Godzilla movies.

Re: What are you watching?
Supposedly a 3 hr version exists (though has never been released) but my suspicions are that the video was played at a slower rate, and is really a 2 hr 30 min. No english subtitles exist to my knowledge for the 2hr 30 min, though the 2 hour version has English subs.,
2hr 36 minutes with english sub download (which does extend the full length though is a bit choppy due to delaying subtitles until after the foreign text)
https://archive.org/details/cabiria-191 ... ored-remix
Regular 206 min

I was looking up The Nights of Cabiria (Le Notti di Cabiria) and the only Italian audio version (basically not a horrible Russian dubbed one) was uploaded to a porn website of all things, which had a surprising number of vintage films. . .

Some Indian films have been recently colorized, though I will need to look over them (my interest in Indian cinema extends mostly to Satyajit Ray.)

I've looked over some of the newer Star Wars movies (I tended to only gloss over anything after Episode 1, and the only 'Star Wars' anything I was really interested in was KotoR, which I fully understand why the original game writer is reluctant for any movie adaptation of the game to be made, considering how abysmal everything looks to be.)
Is Disney to blame or did someone have an influence on the success of the original trilogy (and notice that when George Lucas' wife divorced it was as the third movie was coming out, which is noticeably regarded as less superior to the first two films.)
