I just finished watching the first episode of the Mandalorian. It has 20+ episodes so I thought they'd stretch it out a lot - but they packed so much stuff into the episode. I think they went onto at least three planets and there were lots of characters. Then the episode finished with the guy meeting "the child" (a baby like Yoda) - who he was meant to capture or kill. It was weird how the main character seems to never take off his helmet. I wonder how he eats.

How Rocky Balboa Was the Result of Sylvester Stallone's Quarter-Life Crisis
https://movieweb.com/rocky-balboa-stall ... fe-crisis/

I went through all the Rocky movies (having seen the Rocky Balboa movie in theaters in 2006, and vaguely remember the first and Dolph Lundgren playing the Russian in the 4th one) I tend to consider the first one a classic and the rest rather forgettable or fan service, and redundant storytelling with the ubiquitous fight scenes.

Raging Bull was a far more serious look at boxing, though undoubtedly Rock was notable for being more approachable. The 6th film (Rocky Balboa) seemed to almost imitate Jack Lemotas life with the restaurant (sans being brain damaged and raging along with serving underage girls liquor which closed down the restaurant.)

Just realized Japan was invading China well before WW1 and WW2 (and attacking Russians in China.) The Nankind massacre had precedence, and if you look a the strip of islands north of Japan you will discover some Japanese-built war fortresses, and some structures repurposed for Russians from that era.

Lawrence of Arabia was one of the few films that used 70mm film stock and is 3 1/2 hrs long, so a video file that's around 600 megs is really not doing it justice. I'm tempted to just get a blu ray, as the only decent version online is a foreign dub.

Holocaust Revisionism nonsense (perhaps check over it at some point, though I'm not surprised they never include the likes of the above 9 1/2 hour documentary about people that actually lived through the holocaust. . . Admittedly, some of them actually had different impressions because they never entered the gas chambers, but the ones that did you don't get to hear about usually.) Questions should be posed but it soon becomes obvious that someone's life believing their own confirmation bias doesn't make them particularly unbiased.

It's annoying trying to find the correct version of silent films, especially when so many weird versions are being uploaded.

Last Laugh 1924 (supposedly 1 1/2 hrs)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_ ... 1924_film)

Has a 1hr 40 minute broadcast on TV
https://archive.org/details/Der_letzte_Mann

A legit restored version which aligns with the 1 1/2 hours
https://archive.org/details/the-last-laugh-1924-1080p

And there are some claiming to be "restored" that use a digitally available version of it uploaded to a website which then adds a watermark, and often incorporates their own music to accompany it.

Another problem is a silent film like 'The Golem' could be referring to an earlier 1915 version that was believed to be lost, in addition to a confusion of rate of playback as well as unscrupulous and illegitimate verions.

Der Golem - P. Emerson Williams Score has 1hr 41 minute version of what should be 1hr 24min (though maybe a longer copy was found?)

(The file says 1915 and the title says 1920)
https://archive.org/details/TheGolem1915

This should be the legitimate German copy

Original? I think they mean, they are a contemporary artist who was inspired by the film and made their version of a soundtrack. I've heard far worse than this (ex. variety aka variete 1925 by E. A. Dupont) and this seems pretty good.

Napoleon is a 5 hour film that should have a 7 hour version released, but so was Greed originally 9 hours long, reduced to a 2 and 4 hour version.

Whatever roads of the original Route 66, are largely gone with the new highways.

I would mostly just google maps the route, as it does get kind of interesting to go through the different turns on the road and see what has changed or how things have been adapted (such as a Route 66 bowling alley converted into a landmark.)

************************************

Horizon Farm in Barrington Hills

(Perhaps skip this video unless you want to waste 20+ minutes in the guest house; the next video is all that matters.)

Edit: I sort of looked into the history before starting the video, though it seems most of the info was revealed in the video. It looks as if most of the items in the house are circa 2003 when the last of the original owner died, as the items (cup of Quasimodo from the 2002 Disney cartoon, and Dreamcatcher movie from 2003, were probably the last time anyone stayed in the house. I suspect the house was used for Christmas-time or the occasional family gathering when the owner was still alive, and when the next buyer defaulted they just returned to their house north of the guest house (and if it's the same woman that owned the pharmaceutical company it looks like she now has a different surname changed from Cannon; now Squire.)

The original owners William and Jane McGinley died in 2001-2003 and the house went into foreclosure after being sold in 2006 after the new owners Meryl Squires Cannon, president of Merix Pharmaceutical Corp., and her husband, Richard Cannon, failed to pay off their $14.5-million mortgage in 2009. Strangely the other home they owned (2 Goose Lake Dr,) for $2 million in the same city which should have been acquired by the bank when they defaulted, doesn't seem to have been listed for sale since 1999, though neither is the history of this house in the video (311 Algonquin Rd, Barrington, IL 60010.) I assume the land was turned into a nature preserve while the house has been left to rot.

Foreclosure suit hits most expensive local home of '06

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/311- ... 9072_zpid/
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2-Go ... 3862_zpid/

That 311 address seems to go to a plot of land that has nothing on it, but when looking at the satellite images the location should be here:

42.120930, -88.183960

It seemed like it was getting prepared for demolition though I believe it's just dirt and growth over the driveway.

That video was just a guest house, though this video covers it more (apparently it's now demolished, according to this video from a year ago?)

Yep, everything was destroyed, and that last video gives some good insight into just how large the operation was.

So the original owners of the mansion also owned the surrounding area including the farm, etc. and it went into neglect after foreclosure and then ended up being demolished for a nature reserve? It seems the original purpose was more as a hobby that could only be carried on by someone who had a profitable side business (the guy that died in 2001 was William McGinley, the founder of Methode Electronics Inc. which is still doing really well it seems, and yet the legacy of his farm and property didn't have such an ending.)

One of the comments in the last video mentions a racehorse they sired, which was active in the 1980s, which would die in 2006, around the time the property went up for sale by the son of the owners.

Miracle On 34th Street ( 1947)

The child actor Natalie Wood's last film would be Brainstorm with Christopher Walken, when she drowned in the Pacific under suspicious circumstances with her husband (labeled a "person of interest" which I believe was the result of Walken coming forward and giving additional testimony.) Natalie's sister Lana filled in for some roles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalie_Wood

I had completely forgotten about this and kind of ignored the movie rather than see it.

The comment seems to summarize what happened (and I think Christopher Walken was too out of it and ultimately assumed to let them be, while the outcome made him concerned it would fall back onto him.
Spoiler
Show
I think they were all drunk and on tons of ‘ludes. I think Walkin went off to his cabin and passed out after having enough of being in the middle of a marital dispute. I think then at some point Wagner and Wood had a fight and he either pushed her or she fell off the boat. I don’t know how the dingy got down there. Either she somehow pulled it down with her or he unhooked it for her. Whatever it was I have no doubt in my mind that Wagner knew she was down there. There was a nearby boat that heard her crying and pleading for help, and they heard a guy say something like “yeah yeah we hear you” or something like that. I think the Captain did what he was told to by Wagner, whatever it was. Bottom line is they were all heavily intoxicated and not thinking clearly. At some point Wagner and the Captain must’ve passed out for a bit, and when they woke up he must’ve realized what happened and was like oh shit. So he called the police and at some point he must’ve paid off a few of them. Anyway, that’s my theory after reading that Natasha book years ago. It was a very well written, thoroughly researched book as far as I could tell. And what she wrote just seemed to make a lot of sense. All I know is I haven’t looked at Wagner the same ever since.
The response seems to be accurate (negligence and being complicit in her death, might have been unintentional homicide of people being annoying and intoxicated.)
Spoiler
Show
I agree with you mostly. I wonder if they were fighting-- both drunk. Walken goes to bed, not wanting to be involved. Perhaps Natalie gets belligerent, angry at Wagner for making a scene with her co-star. Perhaps she even gets slightly violent, maybe even hitting or such? So Wagner and/or the Captain actually place her in the dinghy to calm her down, or help her cool off her anger, intending to pull her out in a bit when she's less combative and has it out of her system. They leave her there and go below. She is angry still, if not even madder than before, and tries to get back on board. In her inebriation, she falls out of the dinghy. She starts to cry out that she's drowning. Wagner can't hear her properly-- she's been making noise the entire time-- and dismisses her cries as her still being angry, etc, and he slurrs back to her, "Oh hold on," But he doesn't, go get her or check on her. He either intentionally leaves her there to punish her, not realizing she's fallen out-- either that or he falls asleep or passes out due to his own inebriation. Meanwhile, the dinghy gets detached as Natalie struggles to get back on it, and it begins to drift away. She stays with the boat, trying to get someone to notice her, then drowns and is washed away. Eventually, Wagner goes to get her, and realizes the dinghy and Natalie are both gone, and calls the alarm. By then its far too late. Because the Captain is complicit in placing her in the dinghy, he lies about the accounts of that night also. It's an accident, but it's also directly caused by their actions.

Hollywood is a shit fest.

Metro Last Light Complete is available for free on Steam, and Metro Exodus - Gold Edition (includes DLCs) is greatly reduced to about $8 right now. I'm tempted just to jump through the video, since I've read reviews where the limitations of the autosave feature requires you to replay a 1 hour section of the game, which is something I just don't want to waste time with.

PBS American Experience (a lot of) documentaries

https://archive.org/download/american-e ... e_20220511

The New York documentaries are really good (I recall seeing it previously, and they cover early history and started production in 1999 and resume after the WTC.)

The American Revolution by A&E Television Networks

I was initially thinking the previous one was A&E though it was all PBS.

I tend to think it transformed into what Idiocracy warned us about (like featuring "Stone Cold" Steve Austin) and resembling scenes from "Ow! My Balls!" with next door neighbor disputes (something called 'Neighbor Wars' is featured on the front of the website. . . https://www.aetv.com/ .) At least with Sci-Fi they made it even dumber by calling themselves Sy-Fy, which Harlan Ellison would approve of.

I was just watching Carl Sagan warning us in the 1980s about the degeneracy of modern entertainment which panders to impulse and increasingly anti-science education. . . History no longer is taught on the History Channel, and hardly any Science exists with Sy Fy (though at least they are honest. . .)

In truth though, A&E were already "ahead of the curve" when featuring Sasquatch in the 90s.

American Justice: 1994 'Juvenile Justice' episode of a 13-year-old serial killer. The shows are still being made
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103349/?ref_=ttep_ep_tt

Craig Chandler Price (born October 11, 1973

https://murderpedia.org/male.P/p/price-craig.htm

But he was a "teddy bear" despite having many arrest convictions prior to being caught out at 15 (and then confessing to murder at age 13.) He was going to be eligible for parole in 2020 but he was getting stabby-stabby with his roommate just prior to that, so I guess that might have messed things up for him? It doesn't help that he was expecting to have his records sealed and expunged due to the age of his crimes, until the laws were changed, which he believed he would "go down" in infamy upon release. . . Thankfully that didn't happen.
https://timwhitenewsarchive.wordpress.c ... tabbed-me/

Something must have been really messed up in his home life to be that screwed up (and I'm noticing him wearing a Guinness shirt in the second link of him.)

The subsequent story of an elderly Bible School teacher getting hacked by a dumb teenager who left her jacket with pocketed prescription for birth control aside in her house so it wouldn't get wet is also on the low-end of the bell curve.

I haven't looked closely at this but I believe it's a fan edit combining Bela Lugosi into the Spanish version as well as adding footage from other sequels? Basically, the Spanish version is longer and it incorporated some of it.
