I think somewhere in this thread someone posted a video about the Whittaker family. [Catoptric]

All hell broke loose. I saw a few videos yesterday...first one claimed money raised for the inbred family was used for drugs and that the reporter guy who was trying to help was repeatedly lied to by the family, including being told one of the Whittakers died and money was needed for the funeral. The reporter was said to have had enough and is no longer helping the family. Then I saw a recent video by the reporter, and he's apparently still reporting on them. But then I saw one from 6 months ago where he says he may shut down the Gofundme page, which was at $0 at the time because the Whittakers regularly asked for bits and pieces of the money that was supposed to go towards a new, $200,000 house. In that video he mentions yet another video, by another guy who met the Whittakers, in which (IIRC) one of the Whittakers claims to have been given no money. The reporter calls that Whittaker and she denies saying that and even denies meeting with the critical reporter despite video evidence that she did. I also heard about one of the Whittakers being a convicted rapist, and the one who was wrongly claimed to have died was accused of rape too, as mentioned in one of the videos. A family member said he didn't know if those accusations are true.

It doesn't surprise me too much (I've realized why most such people really are left to their element for a reason,) but it could be more controversial with the video creator (also, some of those homes in their area could probably be acquired for even less than what the donation page is claiming; I've seen houses in redneck areas for a fraction of the cost.)

Not too sure what all is really going on, but I trust the original video creator (the inbred family is probably too unreliable a narrator of what people do for them, and the Taylor video creator is just exploiting some of the attention the family has received, and it wouldn't surprise me if the family was incapable of financial literacy and prone to remind us of the adage, "The roads to hell are paved with good intentions."

It's actually pretty absurd how they treat Paolo Gucci in the movie, considering he pretty much lead a significant portion of the company decisions, and set the trends for how the company presented it's image (though he was considered financially incompetent, which is easy to do in the clothing industry, considering a significant amount of production can easily bankrupt a business; John Varvatos had to make everything in China, and even companies like Ralph Lauren making billions will only make profit on a small amount of that.)

One of them was from this town my ancestor lived in (though actually probably lived in Limestone TN and then moved across the mountain to where Erwin was. They were probably farm hicks that came from Botetourt County Virginia (though they probably would have seemed like a regular person from that time period, since they were escaping farm labor to move onto better things, and owned a General Store before the train industry and the Gilded Age moved on and literally through the building location.)

Bro, you need an active hobby or sport. I was in prison from 17-27, with 6.5 years of that in solitary confinement. Bro, when I was your age, I was stuck in a 5 ft x 9 ft concrete box for 24 hrs per day. I kept from losing my shit by exercising every day. There was just enough space to do pushups and squats and such. Otherwise, you lay in your bunk and you deteriorate emotionally and physically. Dudes would lose their minds and start smearing their shit on the walls and cutting themselves. Bro, rule #1: you can never go out like a punk bitch. You are a man, right? You have two hands, 2 feet, and 2 balls, yes? Then you’re a man the same as me.

When I got out of prison, I took off like a fucking rocket. I had spent all those years in isolation studying and preparing for my release. When you focus light, it burns hotter. I was the entire sun focused into a single point of determination. I seized life and made it my bitch.

You’ve got opportunity. Get up and make it happen, and if you don’t know how just yet then get up and get your body moving in the real world. Drugs and alcohol and internet are never going to equate to shit, you dig? Move your organism in the free space around you like you evolved to do, not live in an artificial terrarium like a fucking iguana.

Many of the Youtube video creators are complete fakes, though it is enlightening how honest some of them are about their efforts (but even with their honesty they can still come across as a grifter, because you know perfectly well they are still constructing their branding/image to sell the products they are mentioning, but at least they demonstrate what they are doing and helping people in the process who probably don't think like them; or basically they are doing things to lure people into through thumbnails knowing it will get more views, while being honest about it.)
