Watcha doin? - a hobby thread
Re: Watcha doin? - a hobby thread
Today’s pic... Learned today the local Native Americans were the Chinook, which is also the make of our RV. The Chinook shaped their heads with cradleboards and called everyone else ‘round heads.’

I don't know but I just pretended to be from Lagos, District 25, San Pablo, and got these results:

I cook a lot, to the point of harassing other people to let me make them food, IT IS HOW MY PEOPLE SHOW LOVE, but chronic wrist and hand pain is making my precious cast iron increasingly unusable.
So I bought a ceramic coated wok.
Why would I commit such a heinous act? Carbon steel is too high maintenance for me and I am still wary of anything with a teflon-y "probably won't fleck off and give you cancer" non-stick coating, especially since anything cheaper than this one feels like garbage in the hand anyway.

Do not seek your retreat! This the moment. All the preamble was for this moment. You must'nt let your charitable sensibilities shrink. You must cook something in that icky pan and post it. Greater love hath no one than this that Ashi should eat teflon for her friends. With every bite we imbibe the grammatically modifying vocal expression uttered in self approval. Increible!ashi wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 8:07 am.

Coastal redwood, no sign or anything. This is In Stout Grove, random internet says up to 2000 years old — certainly over 1000, right? Was blown over in a storm.
We also camped right next to the largest Sitka Spruce in the world (below - about 180 feet high but quite robust, 900 years I think, see people at base) Also pics of moss covered maple trees in temperate rainforest in Washington state.

Still, it was good while it lasted.
I wonder was it like a once-in-a-1000-year storm, or was it just time.
Like if it were sentient in a way, I wonder if it could "recognise" that this one storm after a thousand of years of storms would be the one.

I have the same problem with teflon. Got a set of teflon pans by mistake (that's what happens when you use the internet) and so I asked a few friends what they thought. I was surprised to discover they didn't share my distrust (I am now using one of these pans as I type. )ashi wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 8:07 amI cook a lot, to the point of harassing other people to let me make them food, IT IS HOW MY PEOPLE SHOW LOVE, but chronic wrist and hand pain is making my precious cast iron increasingly unusable.

I would love to use a wok of any sort but we don't have a gas stove. I suppose this is some kind of cookery crime, but when I make a stir-fry, I do without.
What's wrong with your wrists? Also, have you ever used a creuset and if so, is it worth it?

Here's a good video review of non-Teflon non-stick pans. I think the end of the video said that the Greenpan Valencia Pro was expensive but I found it much cheaper on Ebay a few months ago ($60). I think I'll buy it eventually.
Equipment Reviews: The Best Ceramic Nonstick Skillet
In other news, I just bought a modern jigsaw and a carbide tile-cutting blade for a few backsplash tiles. I upgraded to a GFCI outlet and had to break tiles to get it out. The previous tenant recessed the wall plate and it had to be chiseled out. I had to get several spacers to fix that.

I think I forgot what it means to learn like a whole different language.
I've been learning Italian intensely since August 2020 and I'll have done 3 of the 5 years by July this year. I rarely study in my free time and mostly just cram a bit for the final exam.
I took up Modern Greek 3 classes ago and practically no learning is actually happening in the class. My brain absorbs nothing until I can sit down on my own and memorize things. When I signed up, I didn't know that learning would be occuring mainly outside the classroom. I'm actually going to have to find time in the week to study aside from take classes.
I like my teacher though, she's a Yanis Varoufakis* fangirl.
*For anyone that doesn't remember, he's the cool motorcyle-riding ex finance minister of Greece during the govt of the supposedly marxist Syriza party that fucked the whole country over.
