Re: AAA: Ask America Anything
I paid a fitness equipment company $200 for "room of choice" delivery of a 150 lb item that will be brought up one flight of stairs by a third party delivery company that they use. After the stairs, I'll just have the movers take it across my threshold into my apartment. Getting room of choice delivery was the only way I could get it up the stairs. Do I tip the movers? I did the research and it went back and forth.
Re: AAA: Ask America Anything
Tipping is an extremely country-specific practice, so I couldn't say. I would not tip a mover on this side of the world, and never have. What did the 200 include, exactly, and what's the cost of the regular delivery?HighlyIrregular II wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:40 pmI paid a fitness equipment company $200 for "room of choice" delivery of a 150 lb item that will be brought up one flight of stairs by a third party delivery company that they use. Free regular delivery. The $200 room of choice delivery gets the package put in your room of choice and taken up a maximum of one flight of stairs.
How are SOLE products delivered?
The following delivery options are available at checkout:
Curbside Delivery - Free*
This is our standard shipping and delivery option, and the most popular. Our shipper will unload the equipment as close to your home as safely possible. This could be the end of your driveway. If you live in an apartment/condo it may be in a parking lot near the entrance door. An appointment will be made to ensure you are available to receive your equipment.
*Restrictions Apply. If you live in a remote rural area, you may be charged a fee to cover shipment to an area not covered by our shipper. Please call support at 866-780-7653 for details.
Room of Choice Delivery ($199)
Your order will be transferred to a local Final Mile Carrier that will deliver the equipment to your room of choice. This service includes one flight of stairs and the box will be left unopened.
Room of Choice with Assembly ($350)
At the appointed delivery time, the Final Mile Carrier will deliver the machine into your room of choice, assemble, and remove all packaging. This service includes one flight of stairs.
*If your preferred location has limited access or dimension restrictions that could pose a challenge to the delivery team, please contact us to discuss options.

I wonder if they're taking job applications. Would be sweet to get 200 dollars to move a box up a single flight of stairs.HighlyIrregular II wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 2:59 amFree regular delivery. Re: AAA: Ask America Anything
I'd say no to tipping. It's the movers sole function and therefore what they are paid for.
If they went above and beyond maybe. Like if they volunteered to take it up extra flight(s) instead of one for no extra charge

I found a thread with a very similar question: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts ... 09109.page
So far sounds like most people say to tip. Plus, a couple people responded to the question I asked elsewhere and said to tip.
ChatGPT said to tip, but AI Overview said that in the case of appliances, not unless they do something special. Then I told ChatGPT what AI Overview said and it agreed.
The manufacturer wasn't helpful:
