Millennials and gen Z / Alpha are definitely drifting away from aspiring to be rich, and are instead focused on helping and uplifting each other and finding happiness in non-monetary ways.
I’m technically a Xennial since I’m right on the cusp of gen X and Millenial.
Despair around climate change, no prospect for retirement, no wages, absolutely ridiculously sub-par and capitalist medical systems, etc are driving cultural evolution towards newer more socialist values.
… at least in my circles, which run far leftist (the US doesn’t truly have a ‘left,’ so for folks not here, a translation guide: our right runs very far towards fascism, our left is fairly centric, and leftists start moving towards ‘left’ as the rest of the world would tend to define it but we’re definitely not all the way there yet).

As much as the whole thing seems fucked, I think that it falling down would mean significantly more suffering in our lives in the near term, perhaps covering the rest of our lives. As bad as the dominant regime is, the other powers waiting to rise up are generally as bad or worse. It doesn't make me feel good to think about the end of US hegemony.
I think getting rich used to be seen as more legitimate, like you would have to provide value to society to gain wealth, and that used to be more true, although not entirely. Our society is more and more full of consumerist bullshit, scams, manipulative marketing. We also know more about the reality of how the rich build their wealth by exploitation. Information spreads easier so we can see past their manufactured media presence more to how these people are hypocrites who are just privileged and unscrupulous.
It does feel like it's gonna have to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I am going to preface this with a 'people in glass houses' apology given the man baby in charge of the UK right now.
However, I am going to ask - How is it having a pant pissing economically illiterate moron in charge? The whole world will struggle with inflation due to this fucktard. The orange troll was bad enough. Please stop electing people.

Looks like China will be the next big dog, so that doesn't strike me as all the appealing. However, empire is a bit of a misnomer in this context. America has a significant impact on global affairs, sure, but I suspect nobody in Europe or Australia or any the like considers America their 'masters'.
China would likely be far more heavy handed, but one can presume even they would not impact the every day life of citizens in what is currently the western world.
Could be WW3 breaks out in any sort of transitional phase though, and if nukes get deployed, shit will hit the fan for everybody.

Much earlier in the thread, I believe Utitz asked about people riding around on little golf cart things in grocery stores. I noted that yes, we see that at Wal Mart here in NM. And don't get me started on what I've seen in the south.
To update, I visited San Diego for 1.5 weeks, and here sing the praises of Southern California. For one thing, good food was readily available and relatively cheap at farm stands and small grocery stores like Aldis, which we went to a couple of times. By good I mean, more options with less additives and good produce. Anyway, while there, admittedly often at the beach, but sometimes in more normal places like the zoo, I noticed people in general looked much healthier. I didn't see anybody on a scooter in a grocery store, not once. And a lot of people on bikes.
Maybe Buttrock as Zen or others who actually live there can give more accurate picture, but I'm looking forward to living out there at least part time someday.

No, I am a lot safer - 10-15x more or less. Nobody had to hang a carrot in front of my nose to make, what is to me, an obvious and logical choice. Given the links between worse outcomes with being immunocompromised (my mate) or diabetic (me, a bit) and being older (us) it was even more obvious.
Everyone in my immediate family is vacc'd and boosted, they're the only ones I'd bother to argue with at this point, and fortunately I don't have to. I'm just answering.
