I notice I've started to add this to the end of my sentences when I'm telling someone about my plans for the next five years or so.
What do you want to achieve/finish/experience/finally get to do before the nuclear winter?
If the nuclear winter doesn't come first

my qualifier is moving to Europe first — but realistically California is as far as we will get.

I seem to recall Portugal being especially flexible. Are you both retired?

I don't have anything like that but it would be nice to be able to go out on my own terms and to have a fighting chance at survival. I don't want to be unable to travel or be unable to get further away from ground zero because the bridges and docks are closed. I want out of NYC.

Mostly a mix of vacation destinations and bands I've never seen live, I suppose.
But both would probably turn into long lists if I put any thought into them.
Fuck.

Portugal is basically my short list, though my mate was hoping for something more central to the EU like northern Italy. Really good weather is a must.
If we liquidated our assets in the states, we might have enough for some of the 'cheaper' options under the 'golden visa' in Portugal, which basically means buying your way in. I don't know how much of a house you get for 400,000 euro in a low density area (one option), but I'm guessing it would be plenty nice.
Definitely have to visit first. We have so little experience with Europe, it's kind of laughable we'd even think of moving there. I have a lot of admiration for the nations there.
