The Mystifying Rise of Child Suicide
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022 ... ld-suicide

When I was 6 my parents divorced, within 2 years time period, I discovered that my babysitter's husband would kill himself by driving into a pylon following divorce proceedings, and my dad's new girlfriend had been a widow when her husband died by carbon monoxide using a garden hose in a car. I suspect my dad met her in some kind of intervention program, and often it seems turning to alcohol might lead towards it, but with something like children considering it, usually behavioral issues (perhaps stemming from increased internet access and poor social support) would be to blame.

Single Fathers Have Alarmingly High Mortality Rates

And children are more likely to follow into the same pattern of intergenerational behavior (since it becomes hyper-normalized.)

Usually, it seems as if greed and selfish behavior, but also incompatible values (since society tends to not really think about what motivates behavior and just impulsively acts on mindless pursuits) it seems as though loose safety nets prevent people from not becoming fatalistic.
