Mike Tyson

Post by HighlyIrregular II » Thu Oct 10, 2024 4:49 pm

1. Tyson is just a little older than me. I know how it feels to be that age with reasonable genetics and no significant injuries. I haven't pushed myself like I was training for a million dollar fight, but all the younger people are just guessing and at least I have a little first-hand knowledge of what it's like to do physical stuff at my age. I think people my age are more capable than young people think.

2. Larry Holmes said he saw Tyson train and says he will last the 2 minute rounds with Jake Paul and will win.

3. I read: "the latest Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson odds list has Paul as the -330 favorite (risk $330 to win $100) to win, with Tyson a +250 underdog, with the over/under for total rounds at 5.5, with the Over price at -150." Great betting odds if you favor Tyson.

4. Jake Paul will pay Mike Tyson $5 million if Tyson can last more than four rounds. The odds were set before Tyson responded, and he still hasn't responded. If Tyson takes the bet, then he's less likely to win.

If Tyson doesn't take Paul's bet, I actually may bet on Tyson. Betting is legal in PA, but I don't know where to bet or how at the moment. I never bet on sports before. I may look into the best way to do this. I'd like to bet in a way where the state gets a piece rather than some business.

Update: Tyson commented on the $5 million offer and said it would take a lot more.
“He should offer more,’’ Tyson told USA TODAY Sports Thursday.

How much?

“Tell him probably about 20 (million),” Tyson said.

I find it really interesting that Mike Tyson had a net worth of around $300 million but is currently considered to have only $10 million.

It seems like he mostly just goes on random podcasts (such as Graham Hancock, which I didn't wait for and just signed off the stream) and it seemed like for the last few decades, he talked about pigeons or other random stuff.

This video claims he's worth $50 million (cannabis industry?)

I came across the Samuel L Jackson movie, titled, 'Resurrecting The Champ,' (2007) which I assumed was a made up story, possibly based on this real encounter captured on video:

A different boxer (Rocky Lockridge) I assumed this movie was based on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Lockridge

Judging from the Wikipedia page, the clip would have been recorded before 2006, because after that time he suffered a stroke and required a cane to keep his balance.

It turns out the movie was inspired from a real article that was published in 1997, based on the account from a professional boxers son, where he had apparently been friends with Miles Davis and other things.

Whether the movie was based on a real homeless person who was a former professional boxer posing as one of his boxing rivals who had a bigger reputation than him, (kind of like "Stolen Valor") is still not certain.

The movie was named after the article:
Resurrecting the Champ" by J. R. Moehringer for Los Angeles Times Magazine

And a 2023 move called, 'The Carpenter' is about Jesus training an MMA fighter in ancient Jerusalem.

The plotline has something to do with 'Vikings' but such a term didn't originate yet.

'm following the fights at https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/ ... s-analysis

Tyson and Paul just entered the building.

I also ordered Papa Johns.

What kind of cheese do they put on the crust of their "calzones"? I hate that cheese. I like regular parmesan, and garlic is fine too, but they use something different. Unless they seasoned it into nastiness, but I think it's just the cheese.

Here are ESPN's poll results just before the fight

Jake Paul won. People were saying Tyson looked gassed, but he lasted the whole fight. Pot smoking could have had something to do with it. As for the bet I was thinking of making, I don't think I would have but PA and several other states where gambling is legal didn't allow betting on it. Some of the rules for this fight were amature rules even though it was sanctioned as pro. The states can make their own decision on whether to allow betting.

They way they try to amp up the fight by pretending to really hate each other, then have more or less a sparring contest after which they hug it out, makes me feel these fights are 100% a money making scam. As opposed to most people who are probably only at the 90% level.

I'm not sure, but I think the payouts were set regardless of who actually won the fight, so no real incentive to do anything but avoid getting hurt.

I tend to wonder if Mike Tyson threw the fight, but also, was he still capable of it?

Why did Mike Tyson lose to Jake Paul? The answer should be obvious. | Opinion
https://sports.yahoo.com/why-did-mike-t ... 40299.html

I was rewatching the movie, Hangover, and forgot Tyson cameoed in it. I also completely was oblivious, the fight was going on not far from me (I could have driven to the stadium in about 20 minutes; but I was also oblivious to Donald Trump having an election campaign within viewing distance of a place I did security for in Dallas, around 2020, even as it was happening. . . (I probably could have googled it at the time, but I preferred to just assume it was some pointless event; which it was.)

We can still look to Bernard Hopkins to see how good old people could be. He became the oldest boxing world champion at age 49 in 2014.

Getting pounded in the face on a regular basis probably strengthens facial bones and tissues, and that probably takes years for maximum strength. It could also cause bone fatigue, but being the best you could be probably means building enough facial toughness to outweigh the bone fatigue. It gives you brain damage too though.

I was walking back from the dumpster last night and noticed how noticeably the parking lot goes downhill. That's where I sprinted to get some kid's ball, when I felt fast. I have to call that sprint inconclusive.

Yeah, I saw this picture today. I think it explains why Tyson was guarding the center of his face so much. He didn't want to be hit like that again.
