I love focaccia, so I decided to learn how to make it myself earlier this year. I have perfected the recipe.

Also an ex girlfriend is gluten free and asked me to make one for her, and it didn’t suck 🦾

It turns out gluten-free ‘dough’ is more like grainy gruel. Who knew.

So are the brains of most people who are gluten free.

I'm convinced 99% of people who think they are allergic to gluten are full of baloney. Twenty years ago MSG was the great allergy demon. Gluten has stolen the spotlight these days and the former fussbudgets who avoided it don't give a second thought to MSG anymore. Except maybe the 1% or so who actually have an allergy to it.

I tried gluten free bread just recently. It's interesting, not really like bread. We're doing an elimination diet to see what's bugging my gf's stomach so we're doing no gluten, dairy or meat for three weeks. People act like I'm insane. They can't imagine even one meal of beans and veggies. I don't understand why some people care so much about what others eat. Everybody around them has to behave the same way or they get uncomfortable.

She for sure has a diagnosis of Hashimoto's and tried not eating gluten on the chance it would help. She felt it helped significantly with body pain issues, so she stuck to it.

It could very well be a placebo effect. Personally I don’t have anything against the placebo effect since the outcomes are just as real, for those experiencing them, as if they were reproducible in a formal and verified study.

I do take issue with placebo effect outcomes being touted as outcomes others could also have, if they only would do xyz things that the person experiencing the placebo effect did. Sometimes folks are just trying to help which is fine, but too often it’s just a scammer trying to take advantage of people.

On the other hand, I’m intimately familiar with how much ‘fuck around and find out!’ there is at play in the medical field once you get past really basic things. So, I tend to have a decent amount of compassion for the non-scammers who are just trying to help.

When I was ten or so and home with my dad and brother, my dad passed out while in the bathroom and I had to break the door down, re-dress him, and call an ambulance. Doctors said it was a reaction to MSG and that he almost died, and could never have MSG again. Years later he had a large quantity of MSG by accident and was totally fine.

Sonarr and radarr are awesome. We replaced our streaming services with a seedbox and now for the same amount of money we watch whatever we want with no ads in better quality for the same amount of money.

Someone memed the cat picture I posted to a FB group, which got all the likes that made FB try to manipulate me into creating new groups (why).

I had mentioned in some other thread about my new found affection for Lord Huron. They're playing a festival out here in late spring but I didn't want to spend that much on tix. Well, this morning they had presale tix go on sale for an upcoming show at the Anaheim House of Blues. Not exactly next door but easily doable. It's also in a much smaller arena and it's gen admission. So depending on how early I get there, I can prolly get pretty close to the stage. I don't need to be front row, in fact, I'd be fine in an actual chair along the side, though that won't happen, but it's always cool being close to the stage. I went on chat with my credit card company, as they were to have access to presale tix but the code they gave me didn't work. Luckily, the band posted one and it worked and I was able to get a ticket! I was pretty stoked. I only got one. I don't know who else likes them. I suspect a couple of people, both of whom live out of town. I don't know if either would want to come on a school night. I had thought about getting two and maybe just selling the 2nd one. I kinda think I should have done it and tried to get enough to finance my own ticket. Other places I've seen them are were several hundred dollars when mine, with fees, was only like $53. I felt like that alone was worth celebrating.

I found out about the new Cali shows yesterday and it also said First Aid Kit would be joining them. I was like, "Shut up!" That one of the other groups in that sort of sphere that's currently popular that I'd pay money to see. Seeing them both woulda been amazing but alas, they're not joining Lord Huron on tour until later in the summer.
